Minnkota Health Project
Minnkota Health Project provides services for people living with HIV/AIDS, their partners and families living in western Minnesota and east-central North Dakota. Services include emotional support group services, social activities, information and referral, a food program and care advocacy services.
Our support groups offer benefits to members such as medical/social services knowledge, practical advice from peers, emotional support and an improved sense of quality of life. Many issues confronting members, such as stigma, medication concerns and coping with a chronic condition are discussed at group. Support groups meet monthly in Bemidji, Brainerd, Glenwood and Moorhead.
Counselors are also available to provide emotional support for people living with HIV/AIDS, their partners, families and caregivers. Individual counseling is available by appointment and phone. Our counselors are advocates, too. They are knowledgeable about the resources available in our service region and statewide. They pay attention to a client’s individual needs and make referrals to appropriate resources, including medical care, medication coverage and social services.
In addition, for clients who meet eligibility requirements, Minnkota Health Project sponsors a food program where clients receive a monthly grocery voucher for food purchases that meet nutritional guidelines. Money raised by the AIDS Trek will be used to help fund this program. If we raise enough money, some will also be used for a Quality of Life program to assist with unexpected financial difficulties. Clients can access this program for things like veterinarian expenses, supplies for hobbies, and other things that would improve their quality of life.
Minnkota Health Project is located in Moorehead. You can contact them at 218-287-4636 or 877-871-4636; e-mail minnkota@mhpmc.org; or visit their website at http://www.mhpmc.org/mhealth/mhp.html.
