Positive Care Center at HCMC

Hennepin County Medical Center’s Positive Care Center is the largest program of its kind in the upper Midwest, treating about a third of all HIV/AIDS patients presently under care in the state. The Center provides a comprehensive cross-disciplinary approach that addresses the spectrum of needs of HIV/AIDS patients. No other center in the region can claim Hennepin’s combination of clinical resources and applied research, including expert medical care, social service support, psychotherapy services, case management services, and providing education and supplies for medication adherence.

Money received from the Trek will be earmarked specifically for a special fund to help patients meet specific, urgent basic needs. Those needs can include medications and insurance premiums, as well as things like clothing, food items, utility bills and rent assistance. The Center reports that the fund is particularly helpful for mothers with infants.

We, and our patients, are very grateful for the funding support received from the Minnesota AIDS Trek. Simply put, these funds are lifesaving. They help patients purchase medications, nutrition, and basic supplies when all other means of support have been exhausted. Your efforts truly make a difference. Thank you.
